Doctors Ryan Shackleford and Nicholas Hovda from Sojourn Psychotherapy will present a basic understanding of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. Ryan Shackleford, MD is board certified in Psychiatry. Nicholas Hovda is board certified in both psychiatry and neurology.
The use of psychedelics in psychotherapy and for personal growth has been around since the 1950s although suppressed in the 1970s with new drug restriction laws. However, since the turn of the century, there has been focus recently on the potential use of the drug to enhance the impact of psychotherapy. This presentation will focus on current standards and practice for the use of ketamine assisted therapy, focusing the practice of this therapy and how patients are evaluated for it and on indications and contraindications for its use.

1. Describe the basic phases of ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) 2. Describe the leading frameworks for KAP 3. List the core techniques for working with clients in this process 4. State how to explain KAP to your clients 5. Summarize the research that supports KAP 6. Describe the referral decision framework
